Description
Story Behind the Song:
The original tune goes back to W.C. Handy but the song probably is best known as performed by the Memphis Jug Band. Like all songs of this era, lyrics changed from one rendition to another. In our version, the verse about "flat roofs" actually was inspired by a conversation I had with the late Memphis artist Burton Callicot who told me of Mr. Crump's issues with flat roofs.

Lyrics
Mister Crump don't like it, we ain't gonna have it here
Mister Crump don't like it, we ain't gonna have it here
Mister Crump don't like it ain't gonna have it here
Quit drinkin' that whiskey quit drinkin' that beer
Mister Crump don't like it we ain't gonna have it here

You know the Baptist minister got up and began to shout
You know the Baptist minister got up and began to shout
The Baptist minister began to shout
Gotta get them women turn the red light out
Mister Crump don't like it we ain't gonna have it here.

Mister Crump don't 'low no flat roofs round here
Mister Crump don't 'low no flat roofs round here
Mister Crump don't like no roofs that flat
You builder best not build 'em like that
Mister Crump don't like it ain't gonna have it here

You don't like my peaches don't shake my tree
Don't like my peaches, quit shakin' my tree
You don't like my peaches, don't shake my tree
You don't like my fruit let my orchard be
Mister Crump don't like it we ain't gonna have it here
